My latest design work was for the Black History Month Events at my School. I was asked to design a brochure for the activities listings and a poster for the art contest complementing the event. After reading about this year’s theme: “Block by Block: Using Creativity in Cooperative Economics”, I went on and designed a logo that can carry or reflect the objectives of this years theme… building a stronger, better, black community one block at the time, in all areas of life, activities… I will be posting last year’s designs for the same event and by the way I won 3rd place last year too…

History of Photoshop Icons
Wow, Photoshop is 20 years. The software was released commercialy on a February 18 1980 (I wasn’t even born yet).
I have discovered Photoshop in 2001 with version 6.0. At that time, I was swearing by Ulead PhotoImpact 6, I really did not think it was as powerful as Photoshop. Plus, as a french speaker, I had an english version which did not help at all… But finally, after weeks of playing with it and understanding the “layers” system and the whole terminology of Photoshop, I knew this was real pro stuff. At that time I there was no synchronisation interaction between Adobe Products. As I used Adobe Pagemaker 6.5 for magazine layouts, I always had to do multiple save-as and importing… Later on, I got version 7.0 in french… which was nice… Photoshop is one of the greatest programs invented! Even before google!

As a kid, I’ve always been interested in designing visual stuff. I started with Ulead Photoimpact but eventually discovered Photoshop 6.0 around year 2001. It was very hard to learn but then I felt in love with the software…
I use to love to create personal stuff like wallpapers for my computer desktop and it really impressed my family and people coming to visit us at home… I am remembering that period as I am completing my dream to earn my first degree in Digital Media Design at the end of this semester.

God Bless!

Yesterday morning while I was out throwing garbage away down the alley behind my building, I came across this tree on top of a tray. I smiled and realized how nothing really lasts. The fervor of the holidays so abruptly disrupted… Well nothing really lasts forever… Even less happy things. I thank God His joy endures forever.
Photo taken and processed with my cellphone.

Peau Lisse Commercial from Eric Dossou on Vimeo.
A motion graphics project I have worked on for an Ad company in Benin (West Africa) for a cosmetic lotion product for skin. I’ve been provided the models photos and the audio. I had to pick it up from there and compose something matching with the voice over. The basic idea is that a great looking lady ready to get her make up done for here date tonight discovers pimples on her face! And what’s the solution to get rid of them? – Peau Lisse (means smooth skin in French)… Original images were not that great but considering the final look, I think they look better.

Dé Millionnaire Print Ad
Two months ago, I was quite busy, designing this artwork for a lottery product for a friend of mine, working for my country’s lottery company (Loterie Nationale du Benin) The product is called ” Dé Millionnaire” meaning “Millionnaire Dice” the concept was to have each letters in MILLIONS on its dice but they preferred actual dices with random numbers instead… I used Cinema 4D to create the dices and Photoshop for the final composition. I feel (almost) good about it and the mood it creates.
The lottery product also has its own TV show and I should be designing the intro motion design work.

This is a tattoo I have found on a guy in the train. The freshness of the tattoo, its color and its quite mysterious coding immediately caught my attention. Since I am a fan of visual equations I decided to do my best to understand the tattoo which is very typographical before the guy gets off the train. After 10 mins of brain exercising, I was afraid that man would leave the train so I grabbed a pencil and a piece of paper to reproduce the exact thing I was looking at. Suddenly, I solved the enigma, but kept on drawing it.
For the first time, I was looking at a tattoo I would consider a piece of art which is totally well thought and functions as it should. A secret is being revealed in a secretive fashion. You will not forget you’ve seen that particular tattoo any time soon, and the message will stay in you mind. Isn’t it what communication art is all about?
